The Role of Organizations in VHD Control

Rabbit Viral Haemorrhagic Disease is a horrible thing to think about, but we need to do just that. What resources are available to help us deal with it, how can we reach them, what should they do?

As far as resources are concerned, there are five main organizations which are intimately concerned with RVHD in the United States and North America.

RIC: The Rabbit Industry Council
ARBA: The American Rabbit Breeders' Association
HRS: The House Rabbit Society
AVMA: The American Veterinary Medical Association
USDA/APHIS: United States Department of Agriculture/Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service

How can these organizations work together to prepare for the appearance of RVHD in the US?

The Rabbit Industry Council is capable of education and information collection, as well as acting as a coordinating body for accurate information on the disease.

USDA/APHIS is already the definitive source for diagnostic information and assistance in identification and control methods for the disease.

Further information will be posted as the other organizations communicate their abilities and plans.
