This page contains HTML versions of available form letters; for printable files, please go back to the Form Letters page and click on the extension which suits your word processing program.

Please remember that you may change these letters as you wish, but don’t forget to replace ALL the ‘from’ and ‘to’ portions before you print and send!

We hope that these letters are useful in some small way.

Most word processing programs have preset templates for business letters; this is the template you should use.  All we have included below is the subject line, letter body, and reference information.

At the top, letterhead-style (centered), you should place your name, organization or rabbitry/caviary name, title and full address, along with your telephone, fax and email information.

If you don’t like the centered format, place the information neatly at the RIGHT side of the top of the page.  If necessary for space, you may place it opposite the information of the addressee.

Animal Ordinance Changes

RE: Proposed Animal Number Limit {insert ordinance title/# here)

To Whom It May Concern

I would like to register my {strong/emphatic} opposition to the proposed changes in the animal ordinance in {insert town/county}. {Here, briefly list the effects of the changes they are making and make sure you note WHICH bill or ordinance you are referring to in this letter.}

This alteration will unfairly impact the owners of smaller species of animals which are commonly raised in this area, such as rabbits, cavies (guinea pigs), and many others which require far less space than most, while still remaining easy to clean and care for.  Even apparently high densities may be well-maintained with appropriate upkeep and responsible sanitation practices.

Please reconsider the effect your vote will have upon youth and adults in {insert town/county} before voting to make these changes final. Due to such changes, many 4-H and American Rabbit Breeders Association members, as well as those involved in ‘rescue’, may not be able to fulfill the needs of their hobbies and livelihoods. I support responsible ownership and breeding, not ‘milling’–and I feel that the numbers proposed in this measure are unreasonably restrictive, particularly in species useful in so many different ways as are rabbits.

Further rabbit and cavy information may be obtained through the Rabbit Industry Council, the American Rabbit Breeders Association, and the website ShowBunny.com.  Their contact information is noted below.

I strongly urge you to vote NO on this issue, and work to preserve our right to own and use animals in {town/county}.

Sincerely,
